The Vanity of man, the Glory of God download 1 Kings 7:1-15
The building of the palace, the decoration of the Temple of God
1. Putting God’s thing first Comparing the building of the palace and the building of the Temple. The recorder of history puts the Temple’s details first. Solomon almost de-emphasize his own palace.
2. Leaving a Testimony (v.15-22) He erected the pillars at the portico of the temple. The pillar to the south he named Jakin and the one to the north Boaz. 1Ki 7:21
Jakin – The LORD will establish (use in 2 Samuel 7, that David’s kingdom will be established forever)
Boaz – In the Lord is strength. This LORD is adequate. Ps. 105:4 Seek the Lord and His strength…
These become to the people 2 testimonies – We must trust the Lord to establish – and for His strength to sustain… completely helpless without Him.
3. Delight in Details Note vv. He made the Sea of cast metal, circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from rim to rim and five cubits high. It took a line of thirty cubits to measure around it. Below the rim, gourds encircled it—ten to a cubit. The gourds were cast in two rows in one piece with the Sea. 1Ki 7:23-24
· Details shows the excellence · Details shows the great love
The thing is to get a craftsmen – not just a labourer…. A great artist.. to paint the church – we don’t need to be there to see the quality finish – such great love cannot stant it if the quality is not there…

So it is with those who serves the Lord in our church – we want to do it well for Him – wholeheartedness..
Questions: 1. Note how much attention Solomon put to the Temple compared to his attention to the Palace – do you also put God’s first in your money, time and talent? 2. Do you leave a testimony of God’s goodness for your life? Have you planted your pillars of the next generation? 3. How much delight in details do you give to your ministry or in your devotion to God? What are some of the small things that are spoiling the ministry of All Saints Cathedral?
